If you’d rather lag than DC during a DDoS, Square Enix can help

There’s an important distinction between Square Enix being unable to prevent DDoS attacks and being unable to mitigate disconnects caused by them.

NA servers are under active DDoS, affecting all NA worlds simultaneously. When these attacks occur, both PC and PlayStation players feel the impact. However, non-VPN PC players are disconnected, while PlayStation players experience only lag spikes. That points to a shared affected node, not a platform-specific issue.

PSN doesn’t prevent the attack, but FFXIV netcode for the PlayStation clearly handles it better. Square Enix can’t stop DDoS, but they can manage the player experience during one. PlayStation players are already proof that disconnects are not inevitable. Connection handling and session tolerance are design choices. This is squarely within Square Enix’s control.

A 1k+ queue isn’t the only option during a DDoS. Do not let perfect be the enemy of good. Do not give into the defeatist attitude that there’s nothing Square Enix can do
