When they added Trusts in Shadowbringers, the bulk of them used the relevant Scions, the ones you can actually level in Trust mode outside of the MSQ duty support runs.
That made a lot of sense of course, they were always around and easy to slot in, making perfect story sense, and it generally meshed better than some earlier duties being a bit wishy washy about if it was canon that we had other adventurers around at all during certain fights. (Something ShB on started to be a lot more explicit about, like giving us Azem's crystal for when we would actually be alone).
But the part that got me thinking is that a lot of later dungeons, notably Dawntrail, felt like they shoehorned the Scions in that core trust roster in just for the sake of filling out your party with members you already had.
They don't always force it, notably Ktisis has the Ancients, and other relevant story NPCs sometimes fill in instead of your levelable trusts, like Lyna, Zero, Varshan, and Sphene, but they are still fairly limited.
I know when they backported Duty Support to ARR-SB they had a bigger mix of generic and supporting NPCs, like anywhere from unnamed Grand Company folks to supporting cast like Aymeric, and I'd prefer more like that rather than always trying to find a way to slot our core members in.
Like, in DT, we get BJJ, ZJ, and Koana for trials already, but none of them join for a dungeon. Looking at the same level of Lyna in Holminster I would have loved say, Wayakkwe and Nostalgia for a dungeon like the Underkeep. There are probably a good handful of cases where you could have had like, generic landsguard. I know that's not always the most enticing, but I'd prefer things mesh a bit more if the alternative is a friend of ours conveniently showing up right before a dungeon starts and leaving right after.
Any thoughts on having a bit more B-team and generic duty support during the MSQ? I'm not saying to replace the Scions completely, but they feel less special to me if they're pigeonholed into being around for every fight and I'd like some flavor particular to the zone or region.
