The point of this post isn't to be negative. I just want to express my feeback
48 man being scaled for a smaller section of players to do the mechanics / carry isn't bad. Old school WoW is like this with 40 man. I just want to see more creativity with mechanics, rather than repackaged 8 man mechanics. DRS did it the best imo.
I'll give an example. Imagine we place a mechanic at the last quarter of a fight. It requires a lot of micro manging, similiar to golems/slimes in DRS. However players can choose to sacrafice their lives in turn for a party wide buff.. At a certain point sacrafices would have diminishing returns as fewer players would be expected to juggle more responsibilities. Players who opt to sit out, will still have the feeling that they are contributing to the groups sucess, allowing them to still be invested in the outcome and the more serious, competent players will feel like the heroes.
I think that experience is an example of what true midcore is. I can see a lot of problems a mechanic like this would create, and so I wouldn't want this to become a reoccuring mechanic but I'd like to see more experiementation with "one off" whacky mechanics. Whether it's in 48 man, ultimate or extreme. Not all of them will land and some fights might just become notoriously unfun, but I'd take that over the predictablility we currently have.
I'm happy to see a change start with jobs, and I'm expecting that evolved mode is going to have a rough launch. However I am still supportive of the attempt to change the gameplay loop.
