Hello everyone, I started FFXIV about a month ago. I’m a father of two, so progress is slow — but I’m really enjoying it.
A while ago (holy hell, a long time ago) I was a hardcore WoW raider. These days I game exclusively on Xbox for convenience and simplicity. But for a while now I’ve wanted to scratch that MMORPG itch again.
I discovered FFXIV by accident in the store and gave the free trial a go. Not so free for me, since I basically subscribed to Game Pass just for this. But I really like it so far (lvl 39).
I actually enjoy that the game forces you through the whole story. I want that. (NO SPOILERS PLEASE.)
The aesthetic was a bit creepy at first — feels like everyone is either a catgirl or a tiny lala baby. But I’m slowly noticing it less and less.
I love the idea of a truly cross-platform MMO. I think it’s great. And honestly, the controller setup feels very intuitive. With a bit of practice, I don’t think it’s a setback at all.
...................................
Now for the question:
Am I missing out by not buying the full game yet? Should I just make the most of the free trial and ride it all the way to the level cap?
I’m a bit bummed I can’t try PvP — I feel like that would help me decide. PvP is probably the main reason I’m considering buying the full game and subbing right away. I just want to try it.
The second thing is socialising. I’d like to RP a little, maybe join a laid-back FC — none of which I can do right now. And I can definitely feel that limitation.
But part of me thinks I could just save a few months of money and focus purely on MSQ, maybe level other jobs and progress my GC.
What do you think?
Should I pull the trigger now? Are the lifted limitations worth the commitment this early?
Or should I stick to the free trial and milk it some more?
How did you handle it when starting out — and do you regret your decision?
