I've never been a savage raider in FFXIV. My time with hardcore raiding ended way back in WoW Legion. I would say i'm pretty good at MMORPG's but that's been put into question lately. I've played FF14 off and on since release and for the first time i've been really beaten down by the difficulty of FF14.
To preface I alternate between Summoner, Scholar, Red Mage, and Gunbreaker. On Gunbreaker I do very well, maybe it's the additional health to make more mistakes with my partner who mains a healer being able to keep me alive but I do fairly well. Swapping to any of my other max level classes however has me dying, a lot.
The new raids and occult crescent are where I have the most trouble but it often seems like attacks happen without warning. Whereas attacks from previous expansions had wind up and warning it often seems i'm expected to know the mechanics before I ever enter a raid for the first time, and have them memorized and this is for normal content.
I've never needed to study up for 'normal mode' content in this game but Dawntrail seems to expect you to, am I missing something with the sudden steep climb in difficulty? I'm fully willing to accept this is my fault here but i'm unsure how to proceed or what my problem is given I didn't have these problems with Stormblood, Shadowbringers, or Endwalker as I remember.
