In the past, if you were vigilant and played your cards right and had characters in the right places you could take advantage of free world transfers to move gil to Japan DC's and take advantage of their lower prices on stuff like glam/crafting materials, then send them back to NA from a congested world to, say, someplace on Dynamis. There are one or two well known crafters out there who had most likely been doing this for a long time.
Now that Materia (Oceania) is open as a sort of hub between all of the DC regions, I'm curious how many people have been taking advantage of this. Of course, you need a buddy (or a second account) to roll a "shopper" toon on a JP world and meet you on Oceania to do the trading.
I'm looking at stuff like the new treasure map glam (corduroy felt) that's literally half the price of what it is on NA right now. With the popularity of these coats in NA, it seems like there is a lot of gil to be made this way. What's more is that the coats don't even seem that popular in JP judging by the sales history and the excess amount of materials piling up there. It is a literal money tree just waiting to be picked from.
