I dont have that much free time but I'd still like to get to the point where I'm actually playing with people. Last I played I think I was just post ARR as a... White mage? I do dps, guys I promise. 
The point is, do I get to a point where I actually play with people before finishing the whole story? Or is me not playing with people a social skill issue?
Also, any tips for not feeling bad about making simple mistakes in group content? Im very not used to tab target games, and I am the type of person to say sorry too much.
