Unfortunately, I've just discovered that your Square Enix account and your Nintendo account must be the same region to play the game on Switch 2.
I have a US eshop account and my Square Enix account is UK, and I cannot play the game. You also can't just change the region of your Nintendo account as (and I've never encountered this with any Switch game before) the game is fully region locked, meaning if you bought it on one regions eshop, then it seems to be permanently set to that region.
I'm so, so upset with this and I'm stunned by it. It's similar to how your Steam account needs to be the same region to use it to pay for your subscription. I realise this is a niche issue, but I'm definitely not the only person with this problem so wanted to post this so other people currently searching for solutions can see this.
TLDR: If your Switch account and your Square Enix account are different regions, then you cannot link your existing FFXIV account, you'll need to start a new one.
