Hi, made a reddit just to a) vent and b) hopefully find a fix to an issue I've not had ONCE since playing FFXIV on and off again since 2016. I'm pretty trapped at the moment so I hope turning to y'all will help at least point me in the right direction, if not solve my problem outright.
I opted to update my NVIDIA while playing XIV back in January, a thing I understand can make things wonky and frustrating, yet a thing that's never screwed XIV over before in my personal experience. Updating crashed the game (unsurprising), and I used it as an excuse to shut my computer down and get some quality Zz time since it was pretty late.
However, since then I've been completely unable to login into the game at all. I've cycled NVIDIA back, then reinstalled. Multiple times. I've done a general file check/update on the game, and fully uninstalled and reinstalled it. I'm running Steam on admin, opening the game with literally no other active programs (Firefox, iTunes, etc.) running. I've tried several times to open the game in the Normal Setup I've opened it countless times before (Firefox and iTunes both running, videos and music playing, lit just having bare bones versions open too). No matter WHAT I do, opening the game from Steam and logging in (as I always do, being a Steam purchase-fool for this particular game) always results in an immediate crash. I barely see the game window before, oop, there she goes.
I've played several different games from Steam and Battlenet since coming across this issue. New World Aeternum is the only dedicated other Steam MMO I've tried, but Diablo IV hasn't given me any issues either. Literally only FFXIV of the games I've tried to load has crashed, never mind crashed every single time. So I'm feeling like I should blame XIV over NVIDIA or anything else on my (admittedly old) PC.
So. Advice? I'd really like to not lose my house and housing items, even with how indifferent to the game most of us XIV folk are atm. :/ Obv at the end of the day it's all just Imaginary Stuff, but like. I'd like to play my fave MMO sooner or later, and I'd really like to learn what weirdness is making it currently impossible.
