I’ve been playing FFXIV for a while now and I just finished Shadowbringers. I play on Raiden (Light). I absolutely love the story, the music, and the world, but I have a problem.
I often find myself playing alone.
I join roulettes via Duty Finder, maybe backtrack some content left begind, I do my beast tribes, and then I just... log out.
I see people hanging out a lot, doing maps, running old extremes for mounts, or farming glamour, and I get genuinely sad because I want to be part of that so badly, but I have really bad social anxiety and I don't know a proper way to make friends with someone ingame.
My biggest issue is that I never have a "pretext" to talk to anyone. I don't know how to walk up to someone or send a tell without feeling like I'm bothering them or sounding like a robotic NPC. I'm not looking for a hardcore static or a massive FC that just spams invites, just a small group of chill people to do content with. After all, the interaction part is what I love the most about the game.
I've finished the post Shadowbringers patch content, there is so much I want to try yet (the Extreme trials, Bozja, I even started Eureka), but I really don't want to do them alone. I'm also terrified of messing up in front of strangers, but I'm more than willing to learn with patient people.
So, my question for you all is: What are the actual, concrete steps I can take to break out of this shell? How do I find a "pretext" to start a conversation or join a group?
I know the community is famously friendly, but I just can't seem to bridge the gap between "solo queue" and "having friends." Any practical advice (especially from fellow introverts who managed to overcome this) would mean the world to me.
