(long post ahead but very wholesome, screenshots can be seen in the imgur album at the end of the post)
It has became a tradition for me and my niece to spend New Years Eve together and this year we found ourselves spending it playing FFXIV as the free trial was available and we thought we would make the most of it.
We are both massive long-time Final Fantasy fans and having played one or two MMORPGs briefly before this we wanted to give this one a go. We had heard this game had an amazing community but we never expected what was to follow.
We were running around clueless (as sprouts do) in Gridania and we saw a player (who doesn't want to be named), who was sitting in the same spot throughout the night, just outside the starting area just down from where the big teleport crystal is.
We thought it was funny so everytime we passed by this player we would both pat the player on the head (we are all Lalafells) and every time they would react back (we thought they were AFK but they weren't).
Throughout the course of the night - multiple hour downs the line - we were surprised each time to see that our little friend was still sat there so each time we passed by doing quests we would hang out for a bit before waving goodbye as we carried on with our tasks. Towards the end of the night just before midnight we decided to sit with this player and their friend.
After chatting for a bit with this player they said they wanted to buy us both a copy of the game so that we could play together as we are both struggling for money right now. We were both so genuinely shocked, confused and happy that this kind player wanted to gift us both a copy of the game. They couldn't work out how they could do this at first though as we are both playing on the PS4, but they were adamant that they wanted to give us this gift and that they would come up with a way to.
As the clocks reached midnight and we entered the next new decade we wished eachother a happy new year, and this player sent us two different playstore store credit vouchers costing £40 in total which we will use to get the complete edition of the game (its on sale at the moment).
This random act of kindness made us tear up and it was genuinely the greatest, most unexpected way to enter the new year and put us in such a positive mood!
We hope this kindness finds it's way back to the player and that they, and everyone else, has an amazing year ahead. Being on the receiving end of this has inspired me to also do the same for people in the future knowing how shocked and grateful I was in receiving this!
