I play Magic the Gathering and before I started playing FFXIV I bought the Y'shtola deck. Its my personal favorite deck and this is one of the cards in it. I've used this card multiple times, but I never gave it a close look as it's a very simple card. It never registered in me that it stood for the death of one of my favorite characters so far: Lord Haurchefant Greystone. A death that I sadly witnessed for the first time tonight.
Haurchefant was the type of friend and ally we all wish we had. The kind of friend who has your back through thick and thin, offering us shelter when none else would. The kind of friend who trusts your word even when you ally with his nations foe in Lady Iceheart. The kind of man who charges into battle with you against foes well beyond his scope. The kind of man who when he notices a bolt of light hurling at you, his first instinct is to jump in front of it, surely knowing his shield would do little to defend him. Whenever I play this card, my thoughts will be of him and his faith in the Warrior of Light, and I will surely have a smile on my face, just as he requested.
Rest in power, Haurchefant. I will never forget you.
