So, a bit of background: I was more than a little excited when Quantum was announced. Not because of the fight itself so much as what the implications of such a fight might mean. But, I decided that I wanted to do the fight in all its forms before I discussed it in as far-reaching a context as this. So I did; as of last night, I have cleared Quantum 40, 35, 30, 25, 20 and 15. And - setting aside my impressions of the fight aside for the moment - I found myself only more convinced of my initial impression, that being that 'Quantum' versions of normal dungeons could be a powerful addition, given a bit of refinement. I've discussed this with plenty of people I know through the game, and everyone I've done so with seems to share the sentiment, but I'm curious as to what a broader audience thinks.
As for my thoughts on the fight itself, I do want to start by saying I think the, 'Ultimate difficulty' statement was...ill-advised. Not because I think the fight is, 'easy' or anything of the sort, but I think it obfuscates to an extent what makes Ultimate difficulty what it is, at least to me. In it's purest form, the challenge of Ultimates lies in the endurance that comes from focusing for the full duration of a 15-20 minute encounter in my opinion, which immediately disqualfies Q40 from that discussion because it's not that long a fight. It's about 9 minutes long, and so while it does arguably have the pacing and the complexity of an Ultimate, I worry that statement could have discouraged people from attempting it when they might otherwise have done so. With that aside, do think it's a fun, well-designed encounter, and do highly recommend trying at least Q15 to pretty much anyone looking for something to do, and that you consider working your way up if you find the challenge anything less than overbearing. I will say that I was expecting the mechanical changes to be different from what they turned out being, but the way that they went about it was actually what convinced me that 'Quantum' dungeons may have been what they are using the encounter as a litmus test for. All of that to say, while I do believe things may already be heading in the direction, in case they aren't: SE, I do hope you'll consider making 'Quantum' versions of dungeons. I genuinely believe it could be the missing piece of endgame PvE XIV has been searching for.
