FFXIV really needs more open-world content that actually matters, especially content that gives different areas a reason to exist beyond the MSQ.

Right now, weekly tomestone farming is almost entirely queue-based (aside from hunt trains). It would be nice to have real, non-queue options in the open world, like better FATE systems or regional activities that actually count toward your weekly cap. Zones shouldn’t feel like places you run through once and never come back to. I would love to wait for my duty finder to fill while working towards my weekly cap.

Leveling could also use more open-world options too. Not everyone wants to spam dungeons and roulettes all the time, and having other viable ways to level would add a lot of variety.

If the concern is dungeon queue times for story progression, Square has already been pushing Trusts hard and making them more accessible. That should be directly supporting older systems, not limiting new ones. Open-world progression wouldn’t replace dungeons, it would just give players more choice. Trusts handle access, open-world content handles engagement. A cool addition would be letting players queue for a dungeon and, if the wait goes over five minutes, giving them a pop-up option to switch to a Trust run.
