Not sure, if this is widely known, but there are still many people having difficulties launching FFXIV on Crossfire or a Multi-GPU system. And the main problem would be that the game refuses to launch with a DirectX error message box popping out. So here is a solution:
Launch any DirectX game that has no issue with Crossfire (like Counter Strike Source) before launching FFXIV. This just launches any DirectX components, but through the other game so you bypass the error this way. If all happen to go fine, you can continue on with FFXIV without experiencing problems. I do recommend you to run AMD overlay while playing the game since it prevents sudden wattage consumption spikes, that might force your PC to shut down which is actually true for pretty much any high demanding game. You can set the opacity of the overlay to something low like 5% or 0%, if you trust yourself that you will know when it's active.
