From Yoshi P’s letter:

Our progeny may never know Wherefore we look unto the sky, Nor why we dig for truths below; We bear this scorn or watch them die.

Any thoughts? Consider anything past this spoiler-ish...

Unraveling this a bit, it appears an ancestor is lamenting the fact that their ‘children’ (loosely) may not understand their struggles to... find (?) something. Most interesting, the ones who come before are not only misunderstood or even not known by their descendants, but that they (the predecessors) are saying they can either deal with the scorn or watch the descendants die... are the predecessors the unsundered? Are they something else?

Does anyone have this in Japanese or other languages, to explore variations in meaning?
