Hey folks! Long time lurker, first time poster on this subreddit. I've had an idea tumbling around in my head for a little while and I wanted to throw it out there to see what people think about it and get some feedback.
As I'm sure many of you do, I spend a large chunk of my time in the game doing Duty Roulettes for getting weekly tomestones, levelling up jobs, etc. After having taken a break for a while and only recently coming back to do Shadowbringers content, one of the problems I seem to find myself having lately is landing on duties that I just simply cannot remember very well, and this manifests particularly in boss fights and remembering strategies, or particular nuances to individual dungeons - particularly in 2.0 content.
Now, I've had numerous people say to me the obvious answer that will come to mind, which is something along the lines of practice makes perfect, repeating duties will cement this information in my head, etc. While this is true, I also feel like that's a little bit of a cop-out for a number of reasons:
There are a lot of great informational guides available online, but often they're presented in a format that doesn't make them easily digestible on the fly. Obviously some players are kind and take time to explain things if needed, but I've had plenty of experiences in random parties with players who are less kind or forgiving, and honestly that can impact my confidence while playing personally. That in itself I imagine could lead to players not always feeling comfortable to ask questions if needed.
I've actually found this to be particularly true at the moment, where I'm currently levelling up a Bard. My main is a Warrior, and what I'm finding in dungeons so far is that there are mechanics where I just simply didn't know what to do as a DPS, since I wouldn't normally be responsible for handling fights as a Tank and so I was able to get away with not worrying about them so much.
Anyway, I could go on, but hopefully people get the idea. So, what to do about it?
I work as a software developer, and so one of the ideas that has crossed my mind has been to develop some kind of app that can feed me quick reminders of strategies or things to watch for in boss fights, dungeons, etc. Specifically, I've been thinking something along the lines of a chat bot for Discord or similar.
My thinking is basically, if I could have a chat bot up and running on my PC or my phone/tablet on Discord, I could issue commands to it to let it know what duty I'm about to do and it could display a concise summary of important boss tips or other useful information - and could also narrate it while I'm playing. This way, I don't necessarily have to break full concentration away from the game and repeatedly change context, so for example, I could work through trash mobs on the way to the next boss in the dungeon and have something doing an audio overview of the key points for the upcoming boss fight in the background. If there's any important visual information, I can take a quick glance at my phone or other window before (or even during, if necessary) the fight.
I would love to get feedback from the community and see if there is an appetite for something like this, or if people would find it valuable! Some questions I have:
Any and all comments, thoughts and feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance, stay safe and healthy, and happy adventures in Eorzea!

- Some players may take breaks from the game for varying periods of time for any number of reasons. I don't think it's fair to expect that every player can play frequently enough to memorize every little detail for the rest of their lives.
- Duty Roulette by its nature is random, and I would suspect is how most players enter into older content these days. It's very possible you may not see certain content for a while just depending on luck. Some people don't retain information as well if it's not being actively used.
- Another challenge with the random nature of Duty Roulette - you can't prepare for something that you don't know you'll be doing ahead of time.
- A player's available time to invest in the game may be limited, so they want to maximize it doing content that is relevant and enjoyable for them, rather than repeat old content that may only be touched infrequently.

- Do you personally feel like this is a problem that you can relate to? If so, how do you handle these kind of situations? What techniques do you use to help address it?
- Is there an existing application or similar that you use to solve this particular problem? If so, what do you use? What do you like about it, and what are things you wish it could do better?
- Does this particular idea sound helpful to you as a player? If so, what do you like about it? Similarly, what do you not like about it?
