What the fuck? Why is this still an issue? There are forum posts from 2013 of people asking for a proper solution to this problem, and the best we get is "use a VPN".
I want to get back into this game, but it's just such a visceral turn off when the publisher doesn't care that there's this totally random bottleneck barring new players from even opening the game.
The most annoying part? When the errors occur, there is no "retry the update" button. You have to close the launcher, open the launcher, re-enter your password, let it download for 10 seconds, repeat. Those 10 seconds download just fine, mind you, so it sticks out like a sore-fucking-thumb that no one at SE saw this and thought "Oh, if we just let it retry without closing the application it'd be a lot easier".
And the only solution is to spend money on a VPN to throttle down your speed, with a data cap, to download a 30GB update? It's seriously ridiculous and I don't know why no one is putting pressure on SE to fix such a frustrating issue.
