There are Spoilers here, so be warned.
Okay, just finished up Will of the Moon, and I was having real fun with it fighting as a White Mage, only to get dumped as Y'Shtola... Really, she's got Stone II and Aero, and that's basically it?!
Did the same thing earlier with Alphinaud, and it's... It's just so boring. I mean, think of it story wise, we've got the MC facing off in a one-on-one duel with a powerful wariror who apparently has the Kaioken, only to have someone else suddenly jump in, and I'm out of the fight, on top of now playing a steeply gimped white Mage, while the duel plays out entirely off camera.
It's be like the ending of Empire Strikes Back, but just as things are about to get interesting in the fight with Luke and Vader, we just follow Leia getting off Cloud City, and never get to see the end of the duel, with it being delivered in exposition by Luke. You'd feel kind of cheated out of something awesome.
As much as I still dream of drowning Alphinaud, his fight at least made sense, in that no one else was around of the protagonists, so yeah, he's the one that has to fight. It's still not helpful that we're being dumped into these fights with next to no abilities that should be a staple of the class at this point in the game, but it at least made narrative sense there.
