with my own Amaro grind down, i've finally managed to feel for myself just how much better or worse a class got to play - NOT NUMBERS WISE - as i got nearer to 80.
GAINED
Black Mage - a job that keeps on giving. even discounting the buffs it got, every skill starting from 62 (as i last maxed out my classes in HW) just keeps adding to it. no such thing as 'empty' levels - every new skill or trait is its own reward.
Dragoon - not something i expected to happen. i loathed 3.0 DRG because Geirskogul management felt very weird, and i wasnt around 4.0. but going from 60 to 80 felt great, and more importantly, it looked great. whereas every skill for BLM added to its smoothness, every skill for DRG added such a huge amount of visual flair (even if i still find its 5 button rotations a bit too long) that i found myself smiling everytime i got it off in its entirety (with buffs, holy crap). but the moment that made me realize how much ive begun enjoying Dragoon first came when i saw Sonic Thrust's animation, and my fate was sealed with Nastrond unlocked. fantastic.
Astrologian - yet another surprise pick. every healing oGCD it had were massive gamechangers, but my enjoyment peaked at 62's Earthly Star. there's something about it that just feels so right. Sleeve Draw was close to making me drop it outside lvl 80'ing it, but everytime i popped Earthly Star (and honestly, its many other oGCDS), i find myself simply being drawn back.
Paladin - i'm sorry, but there's something about Requiescat being added to the rotation that made me go, "whoa". like, it only took several years, but now i really feel like a classic Paladin with offensive spells on top of the sword. oh, and Passage of Arms is easily among top 3 best animations, ever.
Dark Knight - story is immensely good, but 70 made me feel like suffering its copycat rotation from WAR was worth it. all hail the Blackest Night.
LOST
Monk and Samurai - i lost count everytime i sighed with their empty levels. arguably a stupid thing to even say, but i just feel there couldve been so much more done to make both of these classes enjoyable to level. MNK feels better at 80 once everything falls into place, but SAM just... ugh. dont even wanna talk about SAM's 80, but mostly since it's gonna get a rework soon anyway.
Summoner - fuck how Ruin IV works right now. i can handle DT, Egi micromanagement so that its skills are on CD before summoning Demi-X, but the almost arbitrary 'HOLD THIS SKILL OR LOSE DPS, OH WAIT YOU ALREADY DID BECAUSE YOU LOST YOUR WEAVING TOOL' feel is grating on the nerves. cant wait for the rework.
NEUTRAL
everything else - they feel fine, they leveled fine, and they handle fine at 80.
