I am a healer and ranged main. I have all healers and all ranged (magic and physical except MCH) at 80. The only melee class I have at 80 is PLD. I've always played ranged classes in MMOs and even games like Overwatch.
I was talking with a friend the other day about my tanking in E2S and how my dummy ranged brain cannot seem to grasp how to dodge the Nyx adds (I think that's what they're called, the ones that pop after Guillotine and Slicer...) And somehow keep uptime AND manage to keep the boss straight at the same time. My friend kinda laughed and said he found it funny to hear things from a ranged-player perspective (he's a 99 percentile SAM) and said the best way I can get used to stuff like that is to pick up a melee class.
So, with that story, here comes my question: which one? I said I didn't want to do Dragoon bc the aesthetic doesn't appeal to me. But I constantly hear it's the most rotationally simple? Keep in mind I main WHM, occasionally flex to PLD and if I'm forced to do DPS I will go RDM. Rotations while moving and keeping uptime is a big issue for me. I said I wanted to do Monk bc punching things looks fun but they said Monk is very dependant on positions but at the same I feel like it might help me improve which is ultimately my goal: learn melee, positions and uptime better.
Tl;dr what is good melee class to pick up for someone that favours ranged classes? Not to play at the most optimal level, but to learn more about melee and positionals.
Looking forward to seeing your responses, thanks!
