I'm asking this because, when I first started looking up ffxiv, I knew from the start I wanted to main scholar. I'm a hardcore support / healer main, so I grinded through my first 30 levels as a DPS just to get that sweet sweet healer role and my lovely fairies.
Grinded my MSQ (only partly through Stormblood at this point) as just my scholar! Took a hiatus in the middle and came back to pick up just my scholar! Tried out a Bard because I really like bowmen and thought "that was fun, now back to my scholar!" Even recently picked up BLM, thoroughly enjoying it, but decided "that's my DPS time, now back to my scholar!"
However,
I have been eyeing AST. I really like the idea of divination (I've read tarot for years now). I thought maybe starting an expansion class post-level-1 would throw me off, overwhelm me a bit. But yesterday I decided, what the heck. Lemme try it out.
And by golly, I think I'm captivated.
I love my scholar! I miss my fairies. I feel very in control healing as scholar. Almost without challenge.
But I just noticed, my AST is almost at my MSQ level, and I have had such a BLAST healing this way. It's such a challenge! And if there's anything I love more than healing, it's BUFFING. It's such a tactical kind of busy! Not just shield-dancing and sitting on ongoing regen the way Scholar is. Everything feels like such short bursts and it's so rewarding!
So I gotta say ..I think I might've found a new main in my AST. And I gotta know, did anyone elses class preference surprise them?
