My static's main tank is a newer player who only plays tank with limited knowledge of healer abilities (and all DPS's abilities as well) and I'm having a hard time to convince him that I, on AST, need to use Draw and wait for it to come off cooldown for my opener.
It doesn't happen often, since I spam my Draw button as soon as we wipe and get it on cooldown during loading screen, and the main tank does a 15s countdown so I only need Draw at around 17s before it becomes an issue and usually there's some discussion before each pull, but once in a while he just does a countdown soon after loading in without any ready check or communication in voice call, and my Draw is still at around 25s or so and my opener then becomes bust.
It's not a very big issue at all, since I could adjust and just play one fewer card during opener, and my group is taking things very casually so we aren't really shooting for that extra little bit of damage. But I find it just bugging me when that happens and ideally I would like to be able to just do my opener.
I tried a few things. I tried to ask him to do a ready check before countdown just to make sure everyone is ready, and I told him that it's a good habit for any pulling tank, but since I'm the only one that requires this kind of cooldown waiting shenanigans (we have no Stormblood SMN as it turns out) he appears to think it's not really necessary and quite burdensome to do that every pull. And frankly I agree. We have no DNC either and the longest countdown needed is for our BLM if he needs to use Sharpcast at -12s while everyone else only needs like 5s to get ready (healers' mitigation prepull aside), so a 15s countdown is already more than enough for everyone except me, and I don't feel comfortable asking everyone to jump through an extra hurdle of clicking ready just for me. But I still feel quite bad that when it happens I'm the only one who can't do my opener properly while everyone else can. Once when that happened, I also said to him that I wasn't ready, and when he asked why, I explained "there's a 30s cooldown I need to wait for," which I think is concise and gets to the point enough, but after that pull he still proceeds to do countdown before checking with me to make sure I'm ready. There were pulls when he would ask in voice "everyone ready?" and hear me respond "yes" before doing countdown but that doesn't happen often. Most pulls were started without checking since they happen very soon after wiping and nobody else said they needed a sec so it's natural to assume everyone is ready.
I don't really blame him because I know he's not familiar with how AST works and it's very easy to just forget that there are jobs that need prep time before pulling since Shadowbringers got rid of most of those shenanigans, AST being the last vestige of this needing prep time (I know it's much better than in Stormblood where fishing for AoE Balance was a thing...but still). After what I tried I've mostly just made peace with the fact that I don't get to do a perfect opener sometimes (it doesn't happen often anyway for the reason I said above) since indeed it's a very minor issue. But I still would like to be able to do my opener every time, since I don't think waiting like 10s after loading in before doing countdown is that much of a hindrance either. So I would like to ask, what is the best way to inform him that this is a uniquely AST thing for me and to just get him to check with me making sure I'm ready before starting countdown? Or should I just make peace with it and don't even bother since it's indeed really minor?
