Honestly, the more I think about this idea, the cooler it seems! I'll be honest, I kind of think FFXIV is *almost* at the point, I wouldn't mind the existing characters getting a second-pass on their visuals (the newer races still look pretty great, but Hyur in particular, I feel like a lot of Midlanders and Highlanders kind of bleed together).
Of course, I know some people are still clamoring for male Viera and female Hrothgar, but I honestly feel like new Clans would be super exciting, too!
More than just "a few tweaked options", I would *LOVE* if each Clan also got unique standing/running animations. For example, it makes sense for the Raen (Au Ra) to stand very prim and proper, but the Xaela should stand a little more relaxed.
I'd LOVE to hear you guys' thoughts and opinions what Clans you would like to see, either visually or in terms of Lore! Here are the ones I've been thinking about:
- Hyur - Garleans.
Because, uhh, reasons. Avoiding spoilers! I'm thinking they would probably remain the "proper" looking standing animations, just to fit their sort of Roman-inspired culture.
- Elezen - Ishgardians
To be honest, more than Ishgardians, I would love to see the Duskwight get a little love. Maybe their animations are a little proper-looking, or even slightly hunched?
For Ishgardians, I feel like giving them a more stoic, wide-spread stance would look a little more imposing, fitting in with their more militaristic society.
- Hrothgar - Something more canine (Lupin retconned?)
I *WANT* to love the Hrothgar, but I honestly don't like cats that much. I would love to have something more canine in appearance, maybe even a bit inspired by the Behemoths?
Personally, I would LOVE a Clan that is more Viking/Norse mythology inspired, as I think that would bring a unique vibe to the mix.
Alternatively, considering what a prominent role the Lupin play, perhaps it is worth doing a slight "retcon" to them, making them a type of Hrothgar? Sure, it would technically change their appearance to be more in line with the other Hrothgar, but I think that would be satisfactory to most players.
- Au Ra - Uhh...
Honestly, the Xaela are my favorite race/culture in the game! So the idea of coming up with another clan is pretty difficult. Knowing what I do of their Lore, though, I have an idea...
The Dawn Father (Raen) and Dusk Mother (Xaela) supposedly gave birth to the Au Ra. But what if they actually had a child, an abomination that grew up to be cruel, and was banished by Azim and Nhaama to live out its days in exile. This child would represent the third Au Ra clan.
My thinking? Their scales would be green or brown (or maybe more reflective/chameleon-like?), and I would have them MUCH more reptilian in appearance. Similarly, their culture would be a lot more "edgy", maybe much more open to assassination, maybe even having a reverence towards witch-doctors and those who concoct poisons?
Just a thought! Could make a cool contrast to the serene Raen and the warmongering Xaela, a culture that is way darker and even bordering on "dark/evil" tendencies. Also, give them actual snake eyes!
Beyond that, I would love to see the Xaela have more pronounced canine teeth. For some reason, the "perfectly straight teeth, with no canines at all" just looks bizarre to me. Also, as said above, Xaela should have a more "normal-looking stance", the current looked too uptight.
