Voting

Before I get into this topic id like to say that Ive never been one to really complain about much so I feel a little strange in writing this, but I think I need to say something. Also Id like to point out that I voted yes for Kalia so it has nothing to do with him personally what so ever.

The issue at hand is our voting system up until now. The speed in which Kalia's application (seemed like less then a week) was brought to vote is in my opinion the way each and every person who applys to the shell should be able to share the same privilage. This has not been the case....

For instance Hocuspocus who applied what seems like months ago has still not been brought to vote. He is not the only person, just an example of quite a few who has sat for a while in the limbo of application processing.

Now I personally have alot of respect for the job that Aluc, Fodder, Coice and Chimera do for the LS. I think they act very responsibly in their duties and Ill always be very quick to give them the benefit of the doubt on most any occasion due to the fact they are friends and human beings with many things to worry about ingame and RL as well. So this is in no way an attack on management, that is not my intention.

However I do find the present system to be a little disconcerning to the people applying to the shell. I feel that we really needs to change the urgency in which people are brought to vote. The speed in which Kalia was brought to Vote should be the standard for all applicants in the future. I realize not all have a place in Ultima. However, I also think whether it be yes or no or neutral the applicant should be given the oppurtunity to have this done for them promptly upon applying.

I appoligize I dont mean to seem like Im full of complaints, because my pride and happiness in this LS is without question. Could be the possibilty that I might be off base as well. This post was built simply from my observations and I might not know the whole story. However what prompted me to speak on this matter, is alot of people asking me about Application status constantly. It gets very annoying from the strangers and makes me feel quite guilty that im not doing enough for the friends that ask.

thx for the time

Everything you say is totally understandable.

Before anyone is put up for votation a 'background' check is done to verify what they posted in their applications, if anything major (for example lying about their current/past linkshells) is found, votation is delayed or not put up at all.

As to why Kalia's app was put up to votation so quickly, its probably because it was much easier to check his(?) background because of the amount of inter-ls people who know and vouch for him. I personally do not know him.

As you may notice alot of our jobs are closed to recruitment, few are open, and a couple are selective.

We only have one slot open for most jobs, we need to be picky on who we put up for votation (even 'open recruitment'), because once a person is accepted (as most people who are put up for votation are) that job slot is closed, until one of our members quits (:blue-cry:).

If you feel someone should be put up for votation asap, bug the hell out of us, thats probably the best way to get it done, some people just get forgotten (ugh, yeah it happens).

I know i'm forgetting something, hopefully alu, fod or chim remembers for me, lol.

I concur with Coice's post. If a person is well known or has someone more or less batting for them, it gets noticed more. My words dont mean shit technically, but I do agree with Coice.

I'm sorry if I pushed Kalia's app in particular, he's just a good friend and good player (read: asset) that is going to waste in another LS that really isnt going to go anywhere. So, I made a pre-emptive post which is probably why his vote went up fast.

As far as others go, I'm willing to bet if they have someone sponsor them into the LS and 'give a push' - the same thing would happen. I'm certainly not one to agree with accepting any joe blow off the streets of Valefor into Ultima.

Just my 2 cents.

I have a slight suggestion -

I understand and agree with the fact that with selective applications and even at some times applicants which we REALLY don't want in the shell, votations arent put up for a while (or at all). However, would it be possible, if this is the case, to make an 'application denied' thread, either in this section or the other, or 'application delayed' that way people can be acknowledged and know whether or not they are being voted on, being held in transit, or not being put to vote? I say this only because of Darwen's observations, what I've heard from others, and the constant barrage of tells from applicants that know me "How's my vote going?!!?1" which I'm sure you've all noticed before if you've vouched for someone ^_^ Just a suggestion, I agree with Darwen, its a LOT of people, a lot of work, but I don't think its a problem we cant resolve =)

I think the simple truth is that when people know a large # of people in the shell there is simply less red tape. When lots of people are vouching for someone then it is apparent there is already a lot of support for this person and a sign that their vote is likely to go well.

I actually think that a long application process for those who are not well known to everyone in the shell is better for their chances of getting in. It gives people a chance to see the applicant around in Dynamis, if they attend, as well as to just notice them in game and possibly see how they behave. Honestly, for some people currently in the shell I think if their votes had gone up too fast they may have suffered from having too many neutral votes and now they would be considered valued members of the shell, I'm not even thinking of anyone in particular here I am just mentioning this because I'm sure some of us have felt like when we applied we did not know much of the shell. So it really goes both ways.

Aye, but when an application is submitted (i.e. my Friend jinpimp for example, just recently) and then another application gets bumped (Kalia's) it often hides the application, people may not read it, if its not put to vote 99% of the shell may never know he applied unless we have a system for updating posts or something - same thing happened with a few applicants last month, it must be very upsetting to go 3-4 WEEKS and not even know if you can get in or not cuz you're not up for vote lol

I'd laff.

However, given Alu's bad response rate to /tells (I predict a 32.33... repeating... percent reply rate) and Corvacs apparent lack of care for his POL messages or email (Promathia screenshot w) I'm not sure how well the LS would do checking their email.
