So yeah, we're going to get nostalgic refights with the golden oldies.
I have nothing against this idea at all, but the big question for me is: will these trials have some sort of story to them, like the ARR Extreme trials, or will the devs just go for the oft-used Minstrell's Ballad backdrop route? I get that writing your way into refights with some of the past foes would have been really contrived, and possibly even lorebreaking (Alexander and Omega come to mind), but with the Unreal fights there's potential for some really interesting scenarios.
The upcoming Shiva fight, for example: Ysayle is dead, yet perhaps some misguided sect of her old followers could wish to bring her back by summoning Shiva? Does the Primal Shiva hold any of the memories Ysayle had at the time of her death? Perhaps the summoning yanks her soul back from the other side, only to shackle it inside a Primal she can no longer control? Anything's possible.
It could even be feasible to end certain side stories that never saw proper closure in the past. Urth's Fount (Unreal) could have a climactic final battle with Odin where the cycle of renewal is finally ended. And before you say that's not possible because of the Odin Fates, it wouldn't be the first time something happened in the story that wasn't reflected in the overworld.
Either way, I seriously hope they tie in some story into the Unreal fights. Any thoughts?
