Tips For Canonization: Or How To Get The Saint Of The Firmament Title On A Gatherer And...

So with the announcement of the final(!) Skyward Ranking coming in patch 5.41, I thought I would share my experience in getting the Saint of the Firmament title as a gatherer last time. Thanks to being furloughed and having no place to go (stupid pandemic), I figured "Why not?" My original plan was to just farm enough mats so I could try to rank for ALC , but ended up placing in the top 12 Miners on the first day and decided to just keep at it. I tracked my daily point total as well as how many points I earned per run, and made notes on what worked well for me. First, the daily data:

So what changed between days 1-4 vs 5-10? Basically, I started drinking Hi-Cordials/HQ Watered Cordials and farming a tight loop vs going around the whole map. The first 3 days I did not know that there were two paths, and would bounce back and forth between the Perception and Gathering node tracks, which increased my travel time and both +5 nodes would be up at the same time, so I would have to wait for my GP to fill up so I could use King's Yield II 2x in a row. My best run was 16K. Day 4 I tried to focus on weather nodes, where I would harvest the node, leave and return, hoping to get into the same instance and get it another time. This was highly inefficient, and combined with general fatigue, it was the lowest day total.

Starting on day 5 and thanks to u/Celyni's post (https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/ip093o/miner_node_map_for_diadem_phase_3/), I started becoming a mining machine. That's where I learned about the Gathering vs Perception paths, and saw the loop in the northern part of the map that lets you avoid having to use air currents. From the entrance I went East until I picked up the first node, further East to pick up the second node, and just went around and around until I lost all track of time/sense of meaning. I first did the Red line loop, though later on I switched to the Blue line, which might be even more rewarding, but I started to run out of Hi-Cordials by then. My best run? 21,229. My lowest runs were still between 17-18K. Which brings me to...

How Should You Prepare Before 5.41 hits?

  1. Get a truckload of Hi-Cordials. I ended up having to get HQ Watered Cordials because I had burned through my stack, which are the second best choice. Harvest the gathering collectables now for scrips and trade them for the Hi-Cordials. If you run out, buy HQ Watered Cordials from the MB - Last time they would flood the mb because they were a reward for the scratch tickets.
  2. Overmeld your gear/get food if needed
  3. Stock up on Dark Matter to fix your gear while in the field (and make sure the relevant jobs are at level 70 to do so)
  4. Empty out your inventory/saddlebag/retainer inventory as much as possible, spend down your skybuilder scrips so you start from as close to 0 as possible.
  5. Make sure your chair is comfy and supportive.
  6. Get a good night sleep, stay hydrated, etc. It's not worth hurting yourself physically for the title.
  7. Log out in Ishgard so you can get into the Diadem fast

When 5.41 hits

  1. Pick your gatherer and stick with it. It's probably not going to be worth it to give up your progress in Miner and switch to Botanist, for example.
  2. Find your loop. The nodes may have shifted from last time. But you are looking for a close cluster of nodes, preferably without air currents and near something you can shoot for even more items.
  3. Use Bountiful Yield II to keep under max GP but above 500, then King's Yield II on those +5 nodes. Keep drinking Hi-Cordials/HQ Water Cordials whenever the cooldown is up.
  4. (Optional) Have something else on in the background - I like books on tape/radio drama/podcasts so I can listen but keep my eyes on the screen.
  5. (Optional) Join in on the chat - it's usually fun and a great way to keep your sanity.
  6. Don't forget to stretch/take breaks for biological needs, and do so in the right room.
  7. Ask yourself if you really want to do this. Depending on your server, it's going to be 3 runs a day or more at optimal efficiency. That's 9+ hours a day. I had nothing going on due to being furloughed, and the social interaction in the chat was worth it for me. Your mileage may vary.
