It's a right thunk in the head whenever you jaunt up to the npc to upgrade your new relic weapon, and the quest doesn't work because it's not unequipped and in your inventory. And if you're like me and only carry your best in slots across many classes in your armory chest, then you'll likely have to go purchase an old weapon just to equip for the duration of the upgrade cutscene. Multiply how often you have to do that if you juggle many classes of do the crafting/gathering relics.
