After revelations that become apparent near the end of 5.2 there are certain things that start to become cloudy. Upon the revelation that the Elidibus that existed at the summoning of Zodark had been sacrifice, similar to Venat, to become the heart of the primal. The question that one can draw from this information is, "Who is the current Elidibus?" As we are aware, Elidibus is one of the positions that is held by those in the Convocation of Fourteen and the mantle of this had been passed down to those who were deemed worthy. Unlike the others of the convocation, the Elidibus handle appears to be the most prestigious of them all, carrying the handle of Emissary for the "one true god." The handle isn't something that would be handed out at a moments notice, it would have to be someone who is 1.) Already closely associated with those on the current Convocation , 2.) May have been someone once considered for a position on the convocation but may had to turn down the offer due to other obligations, 3.) Very associated with the upper echelon of Amaurotine society. These three main points, along with many additional aspects are where this theory draws its ideas.
In my grounded opinion, with our current knowledge and understanding of Amaurotine society at the end of its existence, there is only ONE single individual that falls under each and every point. That individual is none other than, Hythlodaeus.
1.) Already closely associated with those on the current Convocation. The majority of information that we receive on who the real Hythlodaeus is, is derived from The Tales from the Shadow's Fourth Story. Hythlodaeus is not only associated with Emet-Selch but the unsundered version of the Player Character themselves. Hythlodaeus' association with Emet-Selch is mentioned directly from your first and only in-game interaction with the ancient; however, the interaction of Hythlodaeus knowing your character as a "Friend" is told to us via the French version of the Fourth Story. As seen in the 2nd Stormblood short story, every language version the site includes a "Warrior of Light: Male" or "Warrior of Light: Female" option, this same option appears in French version of the 4th Shadowbringers story, and used when referring to Hades' and Hythlodaeus' friend. Not even considering those who would have nominated him for his possible position, this places Hythlodaeus in very close associations with at least TWO convocation members; those who know and trust him as a person.
2.) May have been someone once considered for a position on the convocation but may had to turn down the offer due to other obligations. In the 4th Tales from the Shadow story, Hythlodaeus is introduced singing praise of "honorable Emet-Selch of the Convocation of Fourteen." In response to this Hades says that he was "merely fill[ing] a void" in the seats occupancy, the occupancy that would have been filled by Hythlodaeus if he did not "[refuse] the honor." This exchange shows that not only is Hythlodaeus capable of holding a high ranking position but was chosen either by the current Eldibus or the Convocation themselves. Hythlodaeus isn't just another ancient, he is something very high ranking among those outside of the convocation.
3.) Very associated with the upper echelon of Amaurotine society. This leads directly into what Hythlodaeus' position in society was, he was none other than the "Chief of the Bureau of the Architect." This "institution [...] oversaw the creation of concepts" as a whole. The royal crowning achievement of the Amaurotine society, the ability to manifest anything the mind could imagine, was overseen by this man. Hythlodaeus was not just a friend of the convocation, he was practically the overseer of what made Amaurot so special. When Hades' was creating his vision of Amaurot and it's people in The Tempest his mind lapsed to the thought of "Hythlodaeus would surely realize the truth" when creating Hythlodaeus not only because he was a friend, but because he was in all means the master of creation.
In all means, after the death and sacrifice of the Emissary there was no one more deserving of the and worthy of the position more than Hythlodaeus. With this information, I can honestly say, without a doubt in my mind that we will see the return of Hythlodaeus as Elidibus. Unless they throw a random character, who has had no build-up, or no known information given to be Eldibus, then this is honestly the only conclusion. As of right now, there was no ending to Hythlodaeus' story, no confirmation of his death or a scintilla of information that the overseer of creation died with the rest of Amarot. Hythlodaeus is not just the Warrior of Light's only connection to Hades' but the only remaining direct connection to Amaurot.
Thanks for reading, hope this doesnt die in New. Been meaning to write this all down before 5.3 and with the Liveletter right around the corner, figured there would be no better time. If you're intrested I did another write up on Zenos.
