[theory] A Realistic And Non-scythe 6.0 Melee Job Class Prediction

This theory comes in multiple parts

TL;DR: The new job may utilize a sword and dagger (or two swords, one reverse grip) based off of Gabranth from Final Fantasy XII. This job may be called "Rune Knight" or "Rune Fencer" after modification of the job's lore and weaponskill aesthetics.

  1. Every class is generally modeled after some iconic or recognizable Final Fantasy character or class (sometimes more than one wrapped in a single presentation); and this new class is no different. Dark Knight’s weapon animations loosely mimic Cloud and Zack from Final Fantasy VII, Gunbreaker mimics Squall from Final Fantasy VIII, Black Mage mimics Vivi from Final Fantasy IX (and the general Black Mage theme), Dragoon from Kain in Final Fantasy IV, et cetera. I believe the character the new class will mimic is Gabranth from Final Fantasy XII. Gabranth’s character is easily recognizable for those who have played Final Fantasy XII, and the actions are unique enough to not bleed over into other class identities, as Gabranth utilizes a Long Sword + Short Sword combo (or Long Sword + dagger) to attack, often putting them together in a staff blade reminiscent of Darth Maul’s staff sabre.
  2. Every weapon style has historically been unique, both in visual appearance and in the way it's used and held, and Gabranth’s weapons and style are unique enough to establish a class identity. Class identity is not just within the weapon itself, but the actions and style of the weapon’s attacks. Ninja’s dual-wielding daggers (or gladiuses, looking at you Sandung Lux) are both held in a reverse grip with the aesthetic being a slashing style befitting a Ninja. Paladin’s single sword and shield is iconic in its own right -- the sword hand is offensive, the shield animation activates during the blocking of an attack. With Gabranth’s style, melee attacks utilize each weapon individually as well as simultaneously -- likely through combos and finishers. This style fits the unique and visually iconic criterion.
  3. Gabranth’s armor is in the game as the Law’s Order set, but it is specific to the maiming gear. The evidence lies in the helmet. In the Fending variant of the Law’s Order gear, the horns point up; however, in the maiming set, the horns point downward as Gabranth’s does. Due to Yoshi-P alluding to the new class sharing gear with Dragoon, this would make Gabranth’s iconic outfit wearable by the Maiming jobs, specifically the new class.
  4. With almost every expansion announcement, two classes are announced over a series of months with one of the classes existing in game in some fashion. Alisae was presented showing off some of Red Mage’s iconic moveset during the Warriors of Darkness story arc. While Shadowbringers didn’t showcase a new class in the immediate storyline, the announcement of Viera and subsequent showcase within the Orbonne Monastery 24-man raid replicated this concept. For Endwalker, the Sage was announced first with Alphinaud bearing the look and feel of the class. Following this archetype, the second class will likely be showcased in game, and it’s likely to be shown in the final area of the Bozjan Southern Front. The Bozjan Southern Front has presented players with many new visual concepts such as a smaller, single handed axe that is most likely belonging to the as-of-yet-unrevealed limited job class “Beastmaster” (which may tie in with the Island Adventure game mode coming with Endwalker). It is possible that the main antagonist of the Bozjan saga, “Noah vas Gabranth” who is named directly from Final Fantasy XII’s antagonist “Judge Magister Gabranth, Noah Fon Rosenburg”, will wield the new job’s weapons with the announcement of patch 5.55 which will debut after May 14th-15th Fan Fest announcement.
  5. The t-shirts that Yoshi-P wears generally gives away a clue about the next major announcement. Most of the shirts are relatively convoluted in their meaning -- none have ever been too obvious or overt. The three shirts Yoshi-P wore at the last major announcement may reveal information within the Live Letter allowing for the next set of shirts worn at the Live Letter to generate speculation for the Digital Fan Fest 2021. As it is unlikely that the next major melee class will be announced at the live letter, we are more likely to see the Beastmaster announcement as a limited job as it may pertain to the 5.5(5) release.

Therefore, the next class may be a class styled after Gabranth’s weapons and action style, and is unique enough to stand on its own as a job. The name “Rune Knight” or “Rune Fencer” was picked as a job name due to its relevance as a known job within the Final Fantasy franchise, however, without tinkering with the class weaponskills and lore, the job title may not match the job’s features.
