The plot of Stormblood is conveyed to us throughout ARR, it's essentially woven into its core. From the very beginning, we are exposed to the Empire's brutal subjugation of Ala Mhigo and the player is forced to deal with the fallout from the invasion during various parts of the MSQ.
In Heavensward, Alluded to us in the narrative is a world where an overabundant light has vanished the darkness forever, creating a world where there is no night.
In Stormblood, we inadvertently are subject to the fallout of actions taken by certain Garleans, and therein we are given the important information that there are multiple factions within Garlemald, and most significantly of all, that there is an internal power struggle.
So I guess we're going to fucking garlemald now
