Thank you to all those who are understanding about new players. You have no idea how much your patience and understanding means to a newbie. I just want to share a little story to explain how much it helped me improve and meant to me and I'm sure to many other new players too. Kindness goes a long, long way and I hope you know you're wonderful people.
Long story short: Me = shy and scared of competitive games and especially ones with strangers. This is my first and only MMO. I main black mage and have never had problems with it but see people needing healers so wanted to help with that. Used dungeons for practice to get from conjurer 16/17 to white mage at 33 without problem and today got thrown into Brayflox's Longstop for my first time as healer. I am a little baby sprout, they are experienced players.
I fell apart by the first mini boss with panic. Thanks to poor mp management on my side, everybody died and I quickly apologised in the chat and explained I was still learning. I was expecting and would have understood anger at my mess up when I was wasting time on what was probably a daily roulette for them. I was met with none. All three other members were extremely kind, helpful and understanding and just told me it was okay and we'd try again. Moved past the mini boss with no problems next time.
Second mini boss, everyone died again. Once again I apologised and once again they told me it was okay and everybody has to start somewhere. They gave me some tips, helped some things click in my head, helped me understand more and I felt no pressure on what I was doing.
Thanks to those kind strangers, I had no problems for the rest of the dungeon. I learned to play WHM better and what mistakes I was making to avoid in future. With no anger came no pressure (other than what I put on myself) So I had a clearer mind instead of one of pure panic. Obviously I still have a lot to learn and didn't become pro in that time but I improved.
I can imagine it must be frustrating if you're experienced in the game and just want your roulette out the way and so seeing kindness like that in that moment really means a lot. Thank you. You are appreciated.
