I have been remembering how Hyperion's community has changed over the years, and after talking to others i think its a generally good assessment. I would like fellow Hyperion resident's opinions.
I have spent 99.9% of my time playing on what is now Hyperion, started on Kashuan before it was merged with Trabia to form Hyperion in 1.0. i struggle to recall what exactly the cultural differences between Kashuan and Trabia were, but i remember there being a sense of two cultures mingling when that happened.
If i recall, Kashuan was more serious gaming, and Trabia was great crafters with a little RP mixed in.
1.0's Community surprisingly was rather nice, polite, and mature. Unfortunately it was so small that we would sometimes get on each other's nerves because there werent many else to party with. Much like living in a small town. There was some nasty drama, but its funny now looking back.
2.0 saw an influx of new players with the rerelease, and i feel they brought some bad attitude problems from whatever games they previously played and the Hyperion community struggled to integrate them well. so it was less welcoming and friendly at the time. I remember for a while it was common to be yelled at for watching cutscenes in a dungeon, now nobody minds.
3.0 seemed when the community was finding itself again, players were becoming nicer. They were in a more relatable mood, easier to befriend. I also think the excellent writing of Heavensward and beyond has a maturing effect on the mind, they are genuinely good stories that make you care and think.
4.0 is when the community was reaching how it felt in 1.0, and 5.0, i feel the community has grown even more, to the point now that it is extremely easy to find people to be friends with. or more accurately, they are in a nicer mood.
Something else a friend pointed out to me recently... it's been 7 years since 2.0. Some of those annoying rude kids from that time didnt leave, they just grew up and became nicer to play with.
I have always come to FFXIV to heal from RL issues, and i think ffxiv is helping more people do the same as well, especially be facilitating good and productive conversations.
Any time i have visited another server, it hasnt been quite the same as Hyperion, and i am immediately homesick.
