Zaji heard the shrill cries of her injured private and by instinct she swung her self'round onto the source, pausing in her path thru a mass of people, and she would right come to regret it. A rebel saw his moment, lunged, dagger in hand at Zaji. She barely had time to evade, grabbing his wrist to deflect the attack she was foiled, a collision with a civilian jostling her elbows and breaking her grip freed the attacker.
he recovered aptly, like no ordinary vandal he slashed upward, than downward, shifting the blade in his hand. Again! Zaji evaded the blow, stepping back with what little space she had and turning her body to the side; again the assailant made his second attack. T'was her turn to be saved by some random, Her assailant pivoted to recover and make for a thrust! but t'was knocked back by some hyurn fella' in crowd. A young man, he was. likely, that he did not even realize his interference; or that there was even a conflict for him to have interfered in; Zaji saw the man in a split second, their eyes locked, and in that second the only thought that consumed Zaji, was the knowledge that the man she was staring at, had no thought at all.. ' How pathetic, how weak' The thought came and was shook off just as fast.. There was still a pressing matter to contend with. Zaji turned her attention back to the assailant who was now being jostled by a crowd of people running in the opposite direction. She took her chance, and used an opening in the crowd to Head sideways, to the ruby road promenade.
A panic'd private came to attention, shaking and on the brink of crying he had barely stopped him self from collapsing into a heap. Private Em, willed him self with all his might to stop shaking and to steal his voice, but it was all he could manage to stand straight and use complete sentences. " I thought.. that" Zaji held up a hand to stop him. " That wasn't the first time i've brushed with death this evening. Won't be the last. You're injured, I need you to give me a status report." There was a moment of hesitation by the private. He started to speak once, than twice but when called on to form his thoughts he was coming up blank. "PRIVATE" Zaji called, and in one breath; her claws were digging into his shoulders, feeling as if she was piecing the hide uniform as she shook him bearing fangs. It was enough. Em, stood to attention in what felt like the straightest he had ever stood, and spoke with as much steel as he felt he had ever had. " Ma'am, the Unit is in disarray. The Flame Barracks were assaulted, the small garrison there was over run immediately.. I've had no contact with any officer, and our Sargent Krom t'was killed in the fighting; friendly fire from the brass blades ma'am."
