So there have been two posts about this a few months ago, but one only discussed Nabriales' attacks and the other said to look around the arena but didn't clarify what you're supposed to be looking at even slightly. Notably, on the post discussing Nabriales' moveset, a lot of people had the opinion that the similar moves didn't prove forethought to the story.
I'd like to present some evidence that there was forethought here, even back during ARR years.
Around the arena in the first and final half of the fight, there is:
I would agree that if it were just Nabriales' attacks that shared namesakes, it would be sketchy. But these numbers are too precise to knowledge we have now: the Convocation of Fourteen, considered the seat of power in Amaurot, represented by exactly fourteen purple pillars surrounding the arena. Of their number, thirteen of the Convocation agreed to summon Zodiark, but one member protested this and therefore left their seat, represented by precisely thirteen spires extending from Zodiark's image.
I don't think it's really fair to say that at least a good part of the story we see in Shadowbringers was not planned. To have specifically fourteen symbols representing the Convocation and only thirteen spires from the image of Zodiark seems far too convenient to just be a "fluke" or happenstance. Whether or not they used these details as inspiration, or whether or not it was planned, these are still ultimately very cool details and their symbolism to later lore is pretty undeniable. I think, at least, that it's pretty gosh darn neat and I might go hunting in other Ascian-rife trials to see if there are any other small details that were insignificant then, but of greater import now.

Around the arena in the first and final half of the fight, there is:
- a giant door behind you, which is of little consequence
- seven purple pillars either side of the arena, totalling fourteen : https://imgur.com/Q2HFLps
- a central monument of Zodiark at the head of the arena
- Thirteen crystal spires extending into/from Zodiark : https://imgur.com/C1RykE3
