The Changes To 2.0 Are Pretty Extensive, Based On The Time It Took Me To Do A Re-run

I will start by saying that the times I give in this post aren't how long it will take a new player to play through 2.0. I've already played through it multiple times on multiple alts so know what I'm doing and exactly where to go, although a couple of times I went to the completely wrong place because the 5.3 changes made it easier and I simply didn't read the quest properly and went to the old place that I "knew" I should be going to! I also had no queue times because I boosted one job so that I could solo-queue for the compulsory storyline dungeons and trials.

For both of the run-throughs I probably went AFK a few times to take phone calls, eat dinner, etc, so I wasn't actively playing the entire time.

On both characters I had the Road to 70 buff and one boosted job but I ran through the storyline on a non-boosted job, other than in areas where it was easier to use the boosted job to just so I didn't have to waste time killing mobs that were in my way. Again, this is something that will be different for a new player.

On my pre-5.3 run I know I muttered "You have to be kidding me" to myself (and sometimes screamed it into the void) multiple times because I'd forgotten just how many unnecessary quests existed because it had been years since I leveled a new character. On my post-5.3 run that maybe happened twice but I could also see how it would be difficult for SE to remove those particular quests because they unlocked things.

On both runs I only did the MSQ and the job quests unless I was forced to do more.

My pre-5.3 run took me 55 hours and 32 minutes. Some of that was taken up by needing to do some extra things (I chose FATES) to get from level 47 to 50 to continue the storyline on my non-boosted job.

My post-5.3 run took me 37 hours (well it was 36 hours and 59 minutes so I rounded up!) and I had to do nothing except the MSQ. I was also level 50 before accepting level 44 quests. I'm now at level 52 after completing just 2.0.

I could probably have shaved a lot of time off both runs by teleporting everywhere, but even on alts I like saving gil by using Chocobo Porters. It's a habit I've had since the launch of ARR and I cannot pay for a teleport if a Porter is cheaper and only takes a couple of minutes.

If this is remotely interesting to anyone then I can do a similar post when I finish the 2.x storyline which I hope to do in the next week or so.
