Hey all. I was just made aware of Xenosys being banned just a few hours ago. Upon looking into WHY. It was stated by a GM that while STREAMING (on a platform obviously outside of the game) something vulgar was said or done. Now. What was done on stream, i'm not quite sure. (you can Google his Twitter and go have a look for youself if you're not familiar like myself with his stuff.) I will say that. So by no means am I here to defend vulgar actions or content made for viewing. What my problem IS however is the fact that he was banned for something he did OUTSIDE of the game. The vulgar actions or comments were not made in game. A few issues with this.
When reporting somebody IN GAME just a few months back, I had PROOF of them selling gil for real money. It was talked about in a linkshell. Even saying their in game name by somebody IN their Free Company. When telling the GM about it, they made sure to make a point of saying that they couldn't except third party forms of proof.
Would this not DIRECTLY relate to one of us streaming outside of the game, on a platform Square DOES NOT OWN? If something was done, then Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, etc should be the one to carry out a reprimand. Not Sqaure. They should not have direct control over our lives or what goes on outside of the window in which their game is running.
Imagine streaming your game. You're in Discord with your friends having a good time. Now lets say somebody that your friend invited to the server, that you don't know and don't have prior knowledge of their behavior, comes in. They begin to say vulgar things or not socially acceptable things. Or god forbid something that somebody then goes and reports IN GAME to Square. That should not be allowed to be a thing.
Please Square. Look over your guidelines. This should not be something people need to worry about. Your guidelines should directly stick to withing the game in which we play and in which you have control over. And for this reason alone, I will not be streaming your game anymore, even just to friends, in fear that ANYTHING somebody does in chat might be considered vulgar enough to get me reported by somebody random.
Thoughts on this subject would be greatly appreciated below!
