I am currently on Phase 3 prog for Block Head (Titan in Eden 4 Savage) and I've been thinking a lot about my experience as an endgame raider. I'll share my initial experiences, but am wondering (as title implies) what were your first experiences with raiding in XIV like?
XIV is my first and only MMORPG. Big Final Fantasy franchise fan, but avoided this game until about January of this year. In March I went all-in and over the next few months no-lifed the game and completed the MSQ in prep for July's Shadowbringers expac. Since then I've continued to grind the game, and decided to get into Savage raiding for the first time. I had done some of the previous Savage content with my FC and pugs (mostly unsynced), but Eden is my FIRST experience with current raid content.
Was able to find a static and began learning how to raid (thanks to the Balance, I learned BiS, rotations/openers, parsing and ACT, etc) and really fell in love with this aspect of the game. Unfortunately the static I joined started off strong, but really fell apart due to conflicting interests and clashing personalities within the group before we could prog Levi in E3S. We broke apart, and I took a few weeks off to level other classes and breath a little. Shit was stressful. People getting mad at wipes, calling out others, no trying or even prepping for the raid night, and other toxic shit.
I've since joined another static and it's been incredible. (Quick shoutout and thank you to my current group who's been fantastic) I've been increasing my parses and DPS output, learning more about game mechanics, visual cues, and learning how to really play the game at this level. I love it. I love the grind to it, and how even though I "play the same thing over and over again" (credit- my twitch chat) it's so satisfying to get that progression in, and when we finally clear, man, I can't wait.
Last night we got to Phase 3 of E4S and spent 2 1/2 hours continuing to battle Block Head. At no point was I deterred or disheartened at a wipe. It was just part of the process. It was growth. It was different from my first experience with the content.
Anyways, it's been a bit of a roller coaster, but it's given me so much more to the game (that I was already in love with since I've been playing it). I know my experience isn't unique, but, to go back to my original reason for posting, I ask you, Reddit, to tell me about your first experiences raiding in the game.
