I'm aware I'm going to get lit up for this, but I'm sorry, it's just a fact.
I understand, and commend, what SE is trying to do with it, but in effect, it's just dumb.
If anyone is having serious problems in the real world, be the cause natural disaster, pandemic, or just personal issues, those problems will be severe enough that losing a digital dollhouse is hardly on their list of priorities.
Meanwhile, it punishes players that can still enjoy the game, and makes abuse far more rampant, by means of bots buying houses on alts to sell them. (To wit, on Famfrit, there exists someone using the tag 'freestyle (class)' who currently owns 7 houses in a single district, none of them with any buildings on them.)
It's a nice gesture, but it is one that I feel isn't thought out, and open to abuse, because we can't have nice things without someone coming along and ruining it.
