Given this forum's recent implosion and arguments about blocking creative outlets, I've been thinking of something that might satisfy the parties involved; a new Disciple of the Hand job called Scribe.
This job does not impact character progression in any way. It cannot craft traditional items or gear. What it can do is write and publish your works, either through a special NPC created for the job or in a new category on the market board. Aside from being able to write stories in game, you may be able to craft covers and bindings for your story, which just amounts to changing how the item looks on the market board.
This would give players expressive freedom and a hereto unseen ability to tell their stories to their fellow players (let's be honest, few people frequent the forums let alone the blogs).
HOWEVER!
There are some irreconcilable facts that make this idea difficult to implement.
1. It requires heavy moderation from SE's side. Not only do published adventures need to be screened to prevent real world plagiarism, ever story needs to be checked to ensure it follows basic etiquette and ToS.
2. This player base, like the player base of any major MMO, needs to keep itself in check. That means acting in good faith. That means no NSFW publications. Something like this can easily be shut down because of bad faith actors.
3. A conversation needs to be had regarding AI generated works. We all hate it, yet some people still try to get away with it. SE likely won't be able to moderate this out of the danger of angering legitimate writers. Short of the players moderating this in their stead as a reactionary process, I don't know what else could be done.
Let me know your thoughts, ideas, or what have you.
