Long time player, very rare poster:
One of the things I loved most about (I know, I know) FFXI for a decade was running around big open-world bosses while big LS's fought them. Not to attempt to help, or steal, or even necessarily learn...but just to watch. Could have been kings (Fafnir, King Behemoth, etc), Sky or Sea (JoL/AV in particular), etc. The explosion of instanced content over the last 15 years, while an obvious necessity in many ways technically, has drastically reduced the amount of exciting, difficult content available to - if not "experience" - even observe, to the casual gamer.
People still do that today in FFXIV, but generally via Twitch streams, etc., not actually in-game. I don't know if this is technically feasible, but a way to join as a spectator in endgame fights would be such a joy for so many players who would otherwise never experience that content.
I was thinking of this while taking my alt through the end of Stormblood. The Shinryu fight is so epic, so extraordinary, and it's such a shame so many players will never experience the gravity (lore-wise) and difficulty (skill-wise) of those fights particularly in Savage/Extreme-mode.
But the loss of that "epic battle" element in FFXIV (and, frankly, most MMO's today) seems like something that could, and should, be recaptured within the game itself - not exclusive to those connected to Twitch streams, Discords, etc. So many players who don't have interest in raid, or are understandably intimidated by it, will effectively never know it as a part of this game...and that is a shame. A terrible shame that doesn't need to happen, because it's so fun to experience as a watcher (if often less-so as a raider).
Apologies is this isn't the right place for this, but curious if others have interest/other feelings about this.
