I've bought Final Fantasy XIV a week ago. It's been a blast since the minute I started playing. The world, the music, the characters, the gameplay... it's all so good! And I've heard it will only get better. It's almost hard to believe. I didn't know MMO's could still be this good.
I'm currently lvl 34 and playing a Dragoon. My current rotation is pretty easy. I have a combo of about three skills and a buff I can use every now and then. I'm pretty sure I'm playing the class right since it seems hard to mess up this little rotation. It's simple, but it's enough to keep me playing. I know I will unlock more skills anyway.
Anyway, my curiosity got the better of me and I decided to look online to all the skills I have yet to unlock and what the rotation will look like when I finally reach max level. Honestly? It scared the shit out of me. I saw "openers" with like 15 buttons and a rotation in which you had to press skills quickly while also making sure you were attacking in the right position (side/rear). I saw a few videos and a text guide and while they were very in-depth, they made it sound pretty complicated and made me reconsider my class choice. I'm really enjoying dragoon a lot right now because I just like how it plays and looks, but it's still really simple right now.
When I look at what this job will become, I am honestly frightened I won't be able to play it decently. I am however still a long way from reaching the end. I'm still playing through the ARR story. Could it be I'm just stressing over nothing? Or am I really leveling a job I might not even enjoy in the end? What if I won't reach its true potential? I consider myself a casual gamer these days and I'm not sure I'll be able to memorise all those button rotations and whatnot. Is this something other people have struggled with as well? The endgame rotation and gameplay I saw just really, really took me by surprise. I expected some extra skills and buffs, but this is a lot more.
