I had tried to get into FFXIV multiple times before then, but it never really took. Nothing really ever managed to suck me in to the story, I never managed to get past even level 15 with my Lancer. August of last year, a couple of friends started playing as well and convinced me to get back into it with them, and I forced myself through--and I am SO glad that I did. The post-ARR slog was awful, but the banquet and EVERYTHING that followed made sticking with it so, so worth it.
The only MMO I played to any length (ie: Maxing a character) before was Guild Wars 2, and even with that--I had a few firsts with XIV. My first MMO house (Got me a small in Kugane
), my first time joining a guild / FC and making friends in game, my first time getting a cosmetic/glam I actually LIKE, and it'll be my first time having an in-game wedding with my wife when she manages to hit 50 too 
. I've lurked here and there on this sub (and tend to lurk in general), but thanks to everyone who's given me tips, info, crafting rotations , etc with your posts, and thanks for overall being an awesome community to belong to, even if vaguely. I'm lookin forward to getting into endgame content with my FC now--need to get that 2booty.
