I LOVE Wayward Daughter. I think its one of the finest pieces of music in the game, and I am going to explain why. Wayward Daughter, as a song, almost feels like the opposite of most songs. most songs feel like they build towards a climax. towards the chaotic part, but Wayward Daughter does the opposite. The distorted guitar comes in almost immediately after the piano intro, just blowing your face off after the previously calm two phase music. But unlike most songs, as said previously, this builds towards another calm phase. And it has one of my favorite musical tropes with the way it steps down in its key change (Only time I'll link the song here, but its at this time stamp https://youtu.be/nMv9uiQsXvg?t=54 )
Most key changes in my experience sound like they are building towards a chaotic climax, but this one is a step down, and it feels like thats where the song is SUPPOSE to be the entire time. And during this entire chorus, the distorted guitar that has been blasting our face the entire time is just gone. The song has a lot more harmony to it. Until it is suddenly, and without any warning, forced to key change back up, with that distorted guitar sliding back in and i just..
I LOVE it when you can tell a story without any lyrics, and that is what the guitar in this song, the key change, all of it is doing. You don't need the lyrics of Wayward Daughter to understand what the song is saying, and I love that. The instruments tell the story.
