With each new expac, zones from previous expansions get more or less abandoned. Makes sense, in with the new and all that. But even so, NPCs and places from previous expansions still managed to matter all throughout SB. NPCs from ARR and HW were still present during some segments from the storyline, even if in a minor role. The inclusion of Ishgard in the Eorzean Alliance was still something important. I'm sure if we're going to the Empire next expac, they'll be back.
Norvrandt though... Is literally another world. Only the WoL can travel between two worlds at will. In the current state of things, we'll never see Crystarium soldiers fighting in the background together with Eorzean soldiers during a 6.0 dungeon, like how we saw Ishgardians in Ala Mhigo. We won't ever see the Crystal Exarch sit together with Gaius and Raubahn to discuss what to do next about the Ascians. Etc etc.
Somehow though, I don't believe they'll just throw out Norvrandt altogether once the expac over. How do you think they'll handle it? Personally I feel 5.3 may end up with the creation of a permanent portal between the First and the Source, but perhaps that is too optimistic
