So we've had debates about the "sound" the Ascians heard when their world started to end, with their nightmares becoming reality and the world burning. And we know the FFXIV writers like taking previous Final Fantasy story lines and twisting them into something new but at same time familiar.
With the reveal of Anima, it got me wondering....the Hymn of the Fayth. For those not familiar with Final Fantasy 10 and don't mind spoilers for that and FFXIV Shadowbringers in FFX the story has major connections to the "Aeons" aka their version of summons. Now how these creatures manifest is there is a person who sacrificed themselves to become the "Fayth". They let their souls be removed from their bodies and sealed into statues, where they "dream" and perpetually sing a song know as the Hymn of the Fayth. By praying to these statues, everyone's favorite summoner Yuna can gain access to their Aeons, which are the physical manifestations of that fayths "dream"
This doesn't sound entirely unrelated to the Amourtians "creation" magic where what they envision can be made manifest using aether. Another connection is the individual Fayth's aeons are said to reflect their strongest emotion. So for Anima, whose fayth was..kind of forced to become a fayth, her strongest emotion is pain and suffering so you end up getting a nightmare monster bound in chains that looks like it is perpetually suffering. This relates to the end times in FFXIV where the creation magic seems to go haywire cause of a sound, which causes the strong emotions of the people to manifest into monsters
Knowing these thematic connections, perhaps the sound they heard before the disaster started will end up been a FFXIV style rebranding of the concept of FFX's hymn of the fayth. Some entity or group of entities are "singing" and their song ended up manipulating the people of the worlds minds, and this led to the end. A wild theory I know but even since we saw Anima in the showcase, it's just a thought that's been in the back of my mind
