Emet-Selch is one of the best written antagonist in Final Fantasy. He is cunning. He has a sense of humour. And he is determined to reach his goals. His character design is up there with FF15’s Ardyn as one of the best villains in the series.
Regarding Emet’s motives, however, how much was his motivation fuelled by his determination to resurrect Amaurot, and how much was it is because of his ties to Zodiark?
We have limited knowledge of how the Original Primals (Hydaelyn/Zodiark) enthralment work, but based on what we’ve seen on lesser primals, we can see a range of behavioural change on tempered targets.
Which also begs the question: how much of our adventure was our will, and how much was Hydaelyn? (spoilers for DRK quest) is the dark knight able to suspend Hydaelyn’s will and be able to become selfish and self determinant?
In any case, back to the topic. How much is Emet’s motivation is his own? And how much is Zodiark?
