[spoilers: 5.3] Eyyy, Do You Like Trusts? Here's Some Helpful Info About Them In 5.3!

Context: I love my GC Squadron and the Trust system, so keep in mind I'm heavily biased towards encouraging people to use them. I have a lot of experience with both systems, so at the very end of 5.3, I was so ecstatic I slid out of my chair like a wet noddle.

We don't just get a new Trust member, but a permanent All-Rounder. This is HUGE! G'raha comes at L80, so you don't have to level him, and it doesn't matter what level your other Trusts are (thank you IwasJK for the confirmation!)

Please allow me to wax poetic on why G'raha is, once again, the literal best boy. Whilst repeatedly spam farming the new dungeon last night with Trusts, I tested G'raha's behavior across all roles. This is what I have to offer y'all:

AS A TANK (Paladin):

G'raha thankfully seems to not be using the same script as Crystal Exarch, who was so incredibly badly scripted at tanking he was a meme in my circle of friends. Exarch would spam Clemency when hp thresholds were above 85%, turn cleaving mobs towards the party, and had issues picking up adds/using aoe. I am pleased to report, this behavior did not carry over to our beloved G'raha. He's smart about aoe, heals, and Thancred-level decent at positioning (especially on bosses). He's great with cooldowns and, like Thancred, very easy to heal.

The biggest boon about gaining him as a tank is that you DO NOT need a specific companion for him to do his full burst combo. Thancred cannot output proper dps without Ryne in the party to grant him his enchanted bullets; G'raha has no such limitation. Take whoever you'd like, you're not locked into bringing a companion who has ZERO aoe.

AS A HEALER (White Mage):

The first time I saw him do Holy back-to-back on a 2 pack pull, I nearly fainted from shock. I'm going to marry this cat.

See, Trusts are purposefully scripted to run a bit (a lot) slower than partying with people, and they achieve this by only a few of the companions using aoe extremely rarely (ex.: you're lucky to see one Gravity out of Urianger in 1-2 runs- usually when there's only 1 mob left, too). G'raha gives zero fucks about this limitation in the Healer or DPS role. As long as everyone's hp threshold is above a certain amount (about 75%, is my best guess), he's spamming Glares and Holys until everything is dead. Gods bless this boy. His holy scripting isn't the absolute smartest- he will occasionally use it on non-stunnable bosses- but his personal dps is so good overall, I have no real complaints.

Another note: I was on GNB last night and I fucked up a boss mechanic. Out of most of my cooldowns, as a last ditch effort I used Superboile (I did NOT want to run back to the boss). To my utter amazement, a literal second after I popped it, I got a Benediction. Good gods. Have I mentioned I'm gonna marry this npc?

AS A DPS (Black Mage):

This boy loves Foul and Thunder II- which are both aoes, the fobidden snacc of Trusts. I have less experience running him as DPS (I was too in awe of his Holy spam last night to delve into his BLM script more) but I'm fairly certain he's running on a set rotation much like Y'shtola. His triplecasts have at least 1 Foul in them, and his Fire IV's hit more like an actual player's BLM. I went in as Dancer once to buff his spells, and his Fouls hit like smaller LBs on trash pulls. Phew lordy.

An important note on him as DPS: He will use Limit Break! Y'shtola "Limit Break is a dps loss" can sit this one out, finally we have a ranged DPS who won't blow LB immediately on boss pull (thanks, Alisaie, you've scarred me for life).

While G'raha will use LB, the conditions seems to be as follows:

- If you are not DPS, Ryne or Alisaie will take the LB before he will. (No one can beat Alisaie, lol)

- If you are DPS, he will wait about 15secs for your chance to LB first (provided no aoe boss attacks are going on, all Trusts prioritize moving out of harm's way before initiating or finishing an LB).

If you don't take the initiative, he will after a bit. While this isn't terribly helpful (aoe LB's on single targets make me cry), it was an interesting part of his script I wanted to mention regardless. He will LB, but only if you don't want to. What a gentleman. ❤︎

And there you have it, another slew of reasons as to why G'raha remains Best Boy of ShB. Please fulfill his dearest wish and take him on lots of grand adventures- he won't let you down!

Look at this bad boy spamming Holy, what a treat
