This has been an observation I had when I was playing through the zone, but I really felt that Gulool Ja Ja actually failed in ending the conflict between the Xbr'aal and Mamool Ja. Mainly because he failed to address the root cause of the conflict, which is the poor farmland of the Mamool Ja. The way the initial conflict was resolved was basically both sides deciding to sing kumbaya over a dish that symbolized unity and decided to make up.
Without solving the underlying issue, when the more progressive Mamool Ja left, the traditionalist are basically left to stew in their old lands with no solution in sight. Which lead to all the horribleness with the blessed siblings. Even thought everyone was tired of it, they didn't see another way to make their lot better, which is best examplifed when everyone went with Koana's solution of external crops without much resistance.
What I suspect is the actual trial is to see if anyone can make the residents of Mamook's lot better i.e. do what Gulool Ja Ja failed to do.
Idk maybe I am thinking too much into it.
