Well, where do I even start?
I guess I’ll start at the end, that ending filled me with all sorts of emotions, including ones I didn’t know I had!
Seeing all the images and hearing all the songs from previous parts of the story as the credits roll hits hard, see the likes of Papalymo, Moenbryda and Minfillia again is very touching.
The way the story changes how you feel towards the Ascians, they weren’t evil at all, not even Fandaniel. There’s a big theme of “Finality” in the story, Zodiark being created to stop the end, Meteion looking to bring it and Fandaniel wishing for it. I suppose the conflict of ideals is laid out in a way that resonated with me in particular, Meteions belief that life is pointless if it only exists to end and Zenos’ belief that life is pointless except for those fleeting moments of splendour. We and our companions fighting to prove that the temporary nature of life and the mundane moments, is what living really is.
I’ve not even touched on the music!! My goodness me, I knew Uematsu had the ability to capture the appropriate feeling of the scenario with music but Soken really did a stellar job, Ultima Thule is so haunting at the start but becomes such a rallying cry in my opinion, as we step towards our goal the music lifts you to face the finale. Both versions of “Endwalker” feel different despite being the same song, the trailer version feels more somber and dark whereas the ending version feels triumphant as ‘Forge ahead’ runs and finally “Close in the Distance”my good god this song had this grown ass man crying like a baby (and now as I write this), this song hits me as hard as “Revolutions” from StormBlood and “Answers”. Songs of victory or resolve.
Anywho sorry for the ramble, the TLDR version:
Wow, what an end to themes story. FF makes me cry and unsurprisingly the music is unbeatable. Now I need a vacation.
